Congratulations to Peter Katz for accepting his nomination as an All-Star Candidate for Pittsburgh’s 2024 Visionaries of the Year! 

Peter is participating in this year’s campaign in honor of his niece, Amy, who was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) in 2003. At the time, Peter didn’t know or understand what Leukemia was, but in the following years went on to learn more about the disease and what was needed to cure Amy, which created a drive within him to help in any way that he could. 

Amy’s treatment is a miracle drug called Gleevec that has put her in medical remission. The research for this drug was funded by LLS. Seeing Amy be able to grow up and participate in events like THON at Penn State, become an Occupational Therapist, get married, and have a child is a beam of light and inspiration for others.

Many other people that are very close to him have been affected by the disease and provide daily inspiration and determination that we must find a cure and eliminate blood cancer! Nora, Julius, Paul, Linda, Brian, and Bob among many others – you are the true heroes who fight or fought this battle and inspire others on a daily basis.
